Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Pictag.
Pictag uses small visual markers (PicTags) printed on attendee badges. When photographers upload photos, our system detects these markers and matches each photo to the right attendee. Attendees visit your branded event page, enter their badge code, and instantly see all their photos.
No. Pictag uses visual badge markers, not facial recognition. No biometric data is collected or processed. This makes Pictag fully GDPR compliant by design — no consent forms for biometric processing needed.
Pictag uses simple per-event pricing: £50 base price plus £0.10 per participant. For example, a 500-person conference costs £100. No subscriptions, no contracts.
Yes. Since Pictag uses visual markers instead of facial recognition, no biometric data is processed. Standard event photography notices apply. Attendees who prefer not to be matched can simply remove the PicTag from their badge.
Up to 64,000 unique participants per event. Each participant gets a unique PicTag marker that our system can reliably detect in photos.
99.5% detection accuracy. PicTags work in any lighting condition, from any angle, even in crowded group shots. They work even when the attendee is facing away from the camera.
For reliable detection, a PicTag should appear at least 50×50 pixels in the photo (the underlying chilitags engine can detect tags as small as 12 pixels, but 50+ px is the safe working size). In practice, that means printing the marker at around 3–4 cm (about 1.2–1.6 inches) on the badge for typical event photography — photographer within 1–5 m using a modern camera. For crowd shots taken further back, or lower-resolution cameras, 4–5 cm is recommended. The full black border of the tag must be visible — if it is folded, partly hidden behind clothing, or rotated out of view, the tag will not be matched. Our default badge templates already use a correctly-sized PicTag, so you do not need to calculate this yourself unless you are designing custom badges.
Yes. Pictag includes a configurable survey form that attendees fill in before viewing their photos. You can collect emails, phone numbers, feedback — whatever you need. All responses are linked to each participant.
Absolutely. Upload your logo, cover image, choose a theme (light, dark, branded), customise colours, and even add watermarks to downloaded photos. Your event page is fully branded.
Photos are stored for 30 days after the event. After that, they are automatically deleted from our servers.
Yes. You can invite unlimited photographers to your event. Each photographer uploads independently, and all photos are matched to the same participant pool.
Pictag supports JPEG, PNG, HEIC, HEIF, GIF, BMP, and TIFF. HEIC/HEIF files (from iPhones) are automatically converted.
Each attendee receives a unique code on their badge. They visit your event page (e.g., pictag.io/e/yourcode), enter their code, and instantly see all photos they appear in. No app download or account needed.
